Czech Republic Full Year 2012: Hyundai i30 on podium for 1st time

Hyundai i30

May 2020 update: Now with the Top 340 All-models.

The Czech new car market is up just 0.4% in 2012 to a record 174,009 registrations, and the Top 2 models stay unchanged for the 4th consecutive year. The Skoda Octavia remains the most popular model in the country albeit with sales down 5% to 22,406 units and 12.9%, its lowest market share since 2008. The Skoda Fabia at #2 also loses ground: down 13% to 14,355 sales and 8.2%. For the first time since 2009 and the Ford Fusion, a foreign model manages to hop onto the year-end podium: boosted by the new generation, the Hyundai i30 is up a splendid 35% year-on-year and 5 spots to 4,888 units and 2.8%, its best year so far in the country.

The 2013 model should help the Skoda Octavia keep its crown next year

The Skoda Superb is down one rank and 1% to #4 and is now followed by the Skoda Yeti (+7%) and Roomster (+33%) at its best since 2008. This means there are 5 Skodas in the Czech Top 6 this year and for the first time ever in the history of automobile in the country! This total may increase in 2013 with the Skoda Citigo finishing 2012 at #14 (+550%) for its first full year of sales and peaking at #6 in August and December, and the Skoda Rapid landing at #44 but up to #12 in October and December… Other great performers in the Top 10 are the Ford Fiesta up 48% to #9 and the Hyundai ix20 up 62% to #10.

The Hyundai ix20 is a newcomer in the Czech year-end Top 10

Further down, notice the Hyundai ix35 up 22% to #17, the Nissan Qashqai up 120% to #21, Kia Rio up 49% to #28, Nissan Juke doubling its sales to #51, Peugeot 208 disappointing at #57, BMW 3 Series up 120% to #60, Hyundai i40 up 224% to #61, Mercedes ML-Class up 214% to #68 and Audi Q3 landing at #70. There are 3 additional all-new models in the Czech Top 100 this year: the Ford B-Max at #90, Dacia Lodgy at #93 and Mazda CX-5 at #100.
