Italy September 2011: Lancia Ypsilon stays on podium UPDATED

The Italian car market is back into negative at -6% in September with 147,361 registrations, leading to a 11% drop year-to-date at 1,376,580 units. Coinciding with the unveiling of its 3rd generation, the Fiat Panda leads this month for the first time since May and for the third time only this year with 10,434 sales and 7.1%, ahead of the Fiat Punto at 10,194 units and 6.9%. The Punto is still #1 year-to-date however at 7.1% share vs. 6.4% for the Panda.

The Lancia Ypsilon new generation confirmed its newly acquired spot on the podium at #3 this month with 5,578 sales and 3.8%, taking its distance on the Ford Fiesta at 5,466 units and 3.7%. It is the first time since December 2005 that the Lancia Ypsilon manages to stay on the Italian podium two months in a row. The Opel Corsa shines at #6 and the Alfa Romeo Giulietta is back in the Top 10.

Audi Q5

Other good performers this month include the Mini up to #12, the Mercedes A Class up 14 spots to #15, the Fiat Freemont establishing itself within the Top 20 at #17, the Hyundai ix35 up 25 spots to #29 and the Fiat Sedici up to #33. The Audi Q5 is also strong in 42nd position with 879 sales and 0.6% share.
