Set back for the Irish car market: sales are down 36% in July to a feeble 3,994 units, by far the weakest month of the year so far. In this context, only 217 sales suffice for the Ford Focus to keep its crown for the 3rd consecutive month, reaching 5.4% market share. The Focus is also #1 in the 2011 ranking at 3,856 units and 4.8%.

In 2nd place and only 10 units below is the VW Passat at a very solid 5.2% share, but still #4 year-to-date (3.9%). It is followed by the VW Golf, stable at #3 and 4.3% and #2 year-to-date at 4.5%, the Nissan Qashqai (3.7%) and Toyota Avensis (3.4%).

This month has been favourable to premium models: the BMW 5 Series is up a massive 14 spots on June to reach a very impressive 7th position with 131 sales and 3.3% while the Audi A6 goes from #48 in June to #11 this month thanks to 86 sales for a 2.2% market share.
