The Japan import situation is getting back to normal in Australia with sales down only 2% year-on-year at 80,991 units, bringing the 2011 figure to 577,227 registrations, down 6%. Toyota is back in the brands ranking lead, while Australian made cars were also more popular this month with 5 out of the 11 best selling models built locally.

The Holden Commodore reclaims the top spot both monthly (4.4% share) and yearly (4.3%) with the Mazda3 now coming 2nd in both ranking as well, with 4.1% in July and 4.2% in 2011 only 81 units below the Commodore. The Toyota Hilux is up 3 spots on June and rounds up the podium at 3.9% share.

Even though it is down 1 spot from last month, the now locally-produced Holden Cruze continues its impressive progression to reach a best-ever 3.9% share this month thanks to 3,123 sales, only 428 less than the Commodore… The Toyota Corolla is back up to #5 and the Hyundai i30 down 1 spot to #6, making the July Top 6 identical to the 2011 ranking.

While the Ford Falcon is back into the Top 10 for the first time since February at #7, the newly revamped Ford Territory has had to wait almost 5 years to achieve the same feat. It last made its mark in the Australian monthly Top 10 in September 2006 and now reappears at #9 with 1,445 sales and 1.8% share.
