Czech Republic 2009: Skoda Octavia leader for the first time

March 2020 update: Now with Top 60 All-brands and Top 340 All-models.

The Czech new car market surges 12.5% year-on-year in 2009 to 161.659 units. Skoda (+6.9%) returns to growth but continues to see its market share decline, this time by 1.5 percentage point to 29.5% only two years after falling below 40%. Ford (+47.3%) continues its fantastic ascension, almost reaching 10% share this year vs. 7.6% in 2008. Volkswagen (+31.5%) passes Renault (+15.3%) to leap onto the podium, with Hyundai (+14.1%) and Kia (+34.1%) in tow.

Very significant turnaround in the Czech models ranking: after 9 years of uninterrupted Skoda Fabia domination, the new generation Skoda Octavia (+72.5%) enables the nameplate to become the best selling car in its home country for the very first time with 13.6% share, now well above the Skoda Fabia (-27.4%) at 10.6%. Still #3, the Ford Fusion continues to amaze with sales up 37.3% ahead of 3 models in very good shape: the Kia Cee’d up 2 spots and 31.5% to #4, the Renault Megane (+124.2%) and Hyundai i30 (+202.9%). The Skoda Roomster drops 3 spots to #7 and the Skoda Yeti lands at #19 .
