Indonesia 2004: Toyota Innova, Avanza, Honda Jazz and Daihatsu Xenia land in first year above 400.000 sales

The Toyota Kijang Innova launches in Indonesia in 2004.

New car sales in Indonesia surge 37.9% year-on-year in 2004 to smash its all-time volume record, crossing the 400.000 unit benchmark for the first time in history at 441.912 wholesales. Brand leader Toyota (+40.8%) drives the growth with an improved 31% share, distancing Suzuki (+17.2%) underperforming at 18.6% share vs. 21.9% last year. Daihatsu (+119.5%) overtakes Mitsubishi (+16.8%) for #3 overall while Honda (+114.8%), Isuzu (+18%) and Mitsubishi Fuso (+6.1%) camp on their 2003 positions. Nissan (+81.6%), Hyundai (-13.5%) and Kia (+17.2%) ensure there are no Westerners in the Top 10, with Ford (+48.8%) the best-seller at #11 above Chevrolet (+9.5%) at #12.

In 2004 the models ranking is shaken up in a way unseen in the past two decades: the Toyota Kijang is replaced by the Kijang Innova and both add up to 14.4% share (-14.2%) including 22.296 new Innova, holding onto the top spot thanks solely to the new model as the Suzuki Carry (+17.8%) at 13.1% share. The all-new Toyota Avanza is launched this year and brilliantly lands directly on the podium with just under 10% share while its twin the Daihatsu Xenia lands at #5 with 5%. In-between the two at #4, the all-new Honda Jazz manages a very strong 5.6% share, instantly making it the best-selling passenger car in the country and the only one in the Top 10 above the Toyota Vios (+114.1%) at #11 and 3.1% and the Honda City (+8.5%) at #14 and 1.9%.
