Canada 1997: Ford F-Series leads, Ford Windstar up to #3 in market up 18.6%

The Ford Windstar leaps up onto the Canadian podium in 1997.

Finally a very dynamic year for new light vehicle sales in Canada, up a whopping 18.6% in 1997 to 1.393.899 units. Ford (+16.2%) almost matches the market and remains above 20% share for the 2nd straight year at 20.1%, but this time Chevrolet (+25.5%) advances faster to 15.8% while Dodge (+8.3%) is down to 10.8%. Toyota (+44.7%) surges past Pontiac (+12.5%) to #4, Honda (+47.1%) overtakes GMC (+25.9%) to #6 while below Plymouth (+5.3%) and Nissan (+11.1%), Jeep (+19.3%) breaks into the Top 10 and Saturn (+31.6%) is up to #15.

In the models ranking, the Ford F-Series (+21.2%) is the best-seller for the 4th consecutive year above the Dodge Caravan (+4.9%) securing the 2nd spot for the third time in the past 4 years. But the event in 1997 is the third place of the Ford Windstar (+49.7%) up 5 spots on last year and leapfrogging the Chevrolet Cavalier (+14.6%), Honda Civic (+32.2%), Chevrolet C/K Pickup (+21.7%) and Pontiac Sunfire (+24.1%). The GMC Sierra (+25.5%) bypasses the Plymouth Voyager (+2%) and Ford Escort (+0.2%) to advance to #8.
