Indonesia 1994-1995: Market breaks all-time record twice

The Daihatsu Feroza ranks 5th in Indonesia in 1994 and 1995.

The Indonesian new car market soars 51% year-on-year in 1994 to break a new annual volume record at 279.228 registrations. Toyota (+54.1%) manages to outpace the overall growth to improve its share to 27.2%, while Suzuki (+40%) drops to 20.3% and is now threatened by Daihatsu (+83.4%) at 20.2%. Mitsubishi (+34.3%), Isuzu (+32.4%) and Honda (+34.4%) all move similarly and ensure the Top 6 is unchanged on 1993. Mercedes (+212.2%) is up 3-fold to break into the Top 10 at #10. The Toyota Kijang (+61.9%) gets a second wind and improves its share to 22.8%, still a fair distance from the Suzuki Carry (+94.2%) and Isuzu Panther (+33.7%) falling below 10% share. The Daihatsu Zebra (+64.8%) is getting closer at #4 while the Daihatsu Feroza (+382.6%) ends its first full year of sales in 5th place. There’s only two passenger cars in the Top 10: the Toyota Corolla (+42.1%) at #9 and Honda Accord (+82.1%) at #10.

1995 brings a second consecutive all-time record thanks to sales up 17.1% to 326.965. Toyota (+20.8%), Suzuki (+25.2%) and Daihatsu (+3.4%) compose an unchanged podium while Isuzu (+33.8%) is back above Mitsubishi (+20.6%) and Mercedes (+32.6%) is up two spots to #8. Model-wise, the Toyota Kijang (+22.2%), Suzuki Carry (+17.1%) and Isuzu Panther (+30.8%) dominate as usual, and this time the Top 9 is unchanged with the Daihatsu Ferzoa (-9.7%) the only one in negative. The Toyota Corolla (-1.2%) is the only passenger car in the Top 11.
