Canada 1992: Ford F-Series catches up on Chevrolet Cavalier

The new generation lifts the Ford F-Series up 5.6% to #2.

The Canadian light vehicle market skids down -4.7% year-on-year in 1992 to 1.213.344 units. Ford (-2.2%) overtakes Chevrolet (-11.7%) to take control of the brands ranking with 16% share vs. 15.6%, while Dodge (+0.7%) and Toyota (-10.5%) camp on their positions just below. Pontiac (+2.7%) bypasses Honda (-22.1%) to crack the Top 5 while Mazda (+10.8%) overcomes Plymouth (-9.6%) to #7. Nissan (-1.9%) takes advantage of Mercury’s decline (-10.2%) to break into the Top 10.

Model-wise, the Chevrolet Cavalier (-21.7%) manages to retain the pole position despite a steep loss, keeping a 2.700 unit-advantage over the #2 the Ford F-Series (+5.6%) up two spots on 1991. The Honda Civic (-27.1%) is knocked down to #3 ahead of the Dodge Caravan (+17%) up 4 ranks to #8, the Chevrolet C/K Pickup (+5.6%) up two to #5 and the Honda Accord (-15.8%) down one to #6. The Pontiac Sunbird (-32.8%) endures the largest loss in the Top 40 and falls 4 spots to #7. The Plymouth Voyager (+6.1%) is up two to #8, with the Ford Aerostar (+20.7%) and Tempo (-19.6%) rounding up the Top 10.
