The Australian new car market drops 7.8% year-on-year in 1983 to 568.100 registrations, but its two best-sellers take a hit: the Ford Falcon dives 27% to 10.8% share while the Holden Commodore freefalls 55% to just 6.2% share vs. 12.7% a year ago in 1982. The Holden Camira soars 59% and 5 spots to land on the third step of the podium, distancing the Nissan Bluebird – new in the Top 10, the Mitsubishi Sigma (-38%) and Ford Laser (-38%) both in great difficulty. In fact, only the Toyota Corona (+2%) also manages a year-on-year uptick inside the Top 10, while among the Top 20 the Toyota Land Cruiser, Mitsubishi Colt, Mazda 626, Subaru 4WD waggon and Toyota Hilux also manage that feat.
