New car sales in Slovenia are up 5% on a very difficult 2012 to 50,678 registrations, and if the most popular model is the Renault Clio for the 16th consecutive year thanks to sales up a fantastic 36% to 3,944 and 7.8% share, there is a lot of change below. Firstly let’s notice a very rare case of ‘de-fragmentation’ in Slovenia this year: the Top 10 models account for 33.6% of the market vs. 29.4% in 2012… This is because many best-sellers display explosive growth in 2013, starting with the VW Golf up 77% and two spots year-on-year to land in second place with 2,551 units and 5%, even topping the monthly charts in December.
The Kia Cee’d is the best performing model in the Top 10, doubling its sales vs. 2012 and up 9 ranks to third position with 1,811 sales and 3.6% share, even threatening the Clio for pole position in August. It is followed by the VW Polo down one to #4, the Renault Scenic up 56% to #5 and #1 in September and the Skoda Octavia up 12% but down one spot to #6. Other great performers this year in Slovenia include the Kia Sportage up 7 ranks to #12, Hyundai i30 up 28% to #13, Citroen C4 up 58% to #16, Fiat 500 up an incredible 641% to #19, the Ford B-Max landing at #26 for its first full year of sales and the Seat Leon up 181% to #31.
The best-selling all new model this year is by far the Renault Captur, landing directly at a splendid 14th place which is its 2nd best worldwide ranking in 2013 after France! It sells 748 units for a 1.5% market share and even broke into the monthly Top 5 in November… Below we have the Skoda Rapid at #38 (but #4 in December), Fiat 500L at #42, Citroen C-Elysee at #55 and the Peugeot 2008 at #75.
