October marks the 7th consecutive month of year-on-year growth for new car sales in Slovenia, up a flamboyant 23% to 4,600 registrations, which brings the year-to-date total to 44,353 units, up 4% on 2012. Traditionally the #1 brand in the country thanks its local assembly line, Renault is the big winner this month as it does even better than usual, doubling its sales compared to October 2012 to 949 units and a huge 20.6% market share. The French manufacturer even places 4 models inside the Top 6 this month, way better than at home in France! After being passed by the Scenic last month, the Clio reclaims the top spot thanks to 338 sales and 7.3%, the Scenic is down to #3 but still strong at 5.5%, the Megane is up to #4 at 3.3% and the Captur delivers its third month in a row inside the Top 10 at #6 with 2.9%.

Great news coming from Slovenia this month: new car sales are up a massive 24% year-on-year to 3,990 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 39,821 units, now up 3% on 2012. Big event atop the models ranking: for only the second time ever after July 2012, the Renault Scenic snatches the Slovenian pole position thanks to an all-time record 7.1% market share and 282 sales. The Renault Clio is down to #2 at 246 units and 6.2% but remains #1 year-to-date by far with 3,093 sales and 7.8%. The VW Golf is up one rank on August to #3, the Kia Cee’d down 2 to #4 and the VW Polo stable at #5.

Renault Captur Slovenia September 2013Renault Captur

The second event inside the Slovenian Top 10 this month is the excellent 6th place of the Renault Captur with 130 sales and 3.3% share, its new best ranking/volume/share in the country beating the #9 it hit last month. Slovenia remains one of only 3 countries in the world where the Captur has already broken into the monthly Top 10 with France and Portugal. Notice also the Dacia Duster #10 again vs. #23 year-to-date, the Ford Focus up to #12 vs. #27, Seat Ibiza up 34 ranks to #19 and Skoda Citigo up 36 to #30.

Finally some great news coming from Southern Europe: the Slovenian new car market is up a very robust 10% year-on-year in August to 3,373 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 35,831 units, up 1% on 2012. The trend we have observed last month intensifies: the Kia Cee’d tests new heights in Slovenia and sells 233 units for a record 6.9% market share, that’s only 17 sales below the country’s traditional leader the Renault Clio at 250 units and 7.4%. The Cee’d is however still #3 year-to-date below the VW Golf, down to #4 this month.

Renault Slovenia August 2013. Picture courtesy of www.auto-motor-und-sport.deSlovenia is the only country outside France so far where the Renault Captur is inside the Top 10.

The Renault Scenic also impresses: it is up 10 ranks on July to land on the third step of the podium with 171 sales and 5.1%. The other big event this month is Slovenia is the Renault Captur up 7 spots to break into the Top 10 for the first time at #9 with 68 sales and 2% share, making Slovenia the first country in the world (apart France) to welcome the Captur inside the Top 10. Notice also the Dacia Duster up 12 to #10, the BMW 3 Series up 15 to #16, BMW 5 Series up to #18, VW Tiguan up 23 to #21 and the Mini Countryman up to #24.

New car sales in Slovenia are up 3% year-on-year in July to 4,229 registrations, which brings the year-to-date total into positive, but just: at 32,458 sales it is up 0.05% or 26 units over 2012! The Renault Clio is sovereign once again with 317 sales and 7.5%, reinforcing its 2013 leadership at 2,597 units and 8%, but this month’s hero is the Kia Cee’d, up to a massive 5.6% market share thanks to 236 sales. The Cee’d is still #3 year-to-date below the VW Golf but should be able to fight for a second spot over the Full Year 2013 if it keeps at these stratospheric levels. The VW Golf, Polo and Renault Megane follow.

Fiat 500L Slovenia July 2013Fiat 500L

The other surprise this month in Slovenia is the Fiat 500L, produced in neighbouring Serbia, up from nowhere (read outside the June Top 70) directly inside the Top 10 at #10 with 82 sales and 1.9%, making Slovenia the third country in the world where the 500L has broken into the Top 10 so far with Italy and Serbia. Notice also the Hyundai i30 up 7 spots to #7, the Peugeot 3008 up 15 to #14, Renault Captur down 3 to #16, Fiat Panda up to #19 vs. #37 year-to-date, Skoda Superb up to #23 vs. #55, Opel Insignia up 25 to #26 and the Peugeot 2008 up 7 to #38.

The Slovenian new car market confirms it is now back in shape, delivering its third consecutive month of year-on-year growth at a very healthy +17% in June to 5,845 registrations, which brings the year-to-date total up to an almost identical level compared to the first 6 months of 2012 at 28,229 units, down 0.3%. Exceptional score of the locally-produced Renault Clio this month: it grabs a huge 12.3% market share thanks to 718 sales, which is almost 2.5 times as much as the #2. Note the last 3 generations of the model are included in this tally. The Kia Cee’d is the other outstanding performer this month, up one further spot to land in 2nd place at 292 units and 5% share, which pushes it up to #3 year-to-date, passing the VW Polo. The VW Golf rounds up the podium this month at 4.5% but remains #2 year-to-date at 5%.

In 4th place, the Renault Scenic maintains itself at very solid levels with 240 sales and 4.1% vs. 2.8% year-to-date, the Kia Sportage is up 5 spots to #8, the Opel Zafira up a massive 36 ranks to #11 and the Renault Captur is up one to #13 which still makes Slovenia its 2nd best-performing country in the world so far after France where it ranks #4 this month. Further down, notice the Hyundai i30 up 29 spots to #14, the Opel Mokka up 7 to #22, BMW X3 up from outside the Top 70 to #23, Alfa Romeo Giulietta up to #43 and the Peugeot 2008 breaking into the Slovenian Top 50 for the first time at #45.

Things are starting to get a little rosier for new car sales in Slovenia: after losing ground year-on-year for almost two years straight, the Slovenian new car market lodges its second consecutive month on year-on-year growth in May at +5% to 4,914 registrations. The year-to-date total is however still in negative at -4% and 22,384 units. The Renault Clio is in pole position for the 10th time in a row with 296 sales and 6%, ahead of the VW Golf at 257 units and 5.2% and the Kia Cee’d up 2 spots to an excellent third position with 228 sales and 4.6%. The Renault Scenic is up 2 to #4 at 3.7%, way above its 2013 YTD level of 2.4%.

The best performer this month is the all-new Renault Captur, landing directly in 15th place for its first full month in market at 71 units and 1.4%. This is the Captur’s second best ranking anywhere in the world below the #13 it reached in France this month. Other great performers include the Fiat 500 brilliantly maintaining itself inside the Slovenian Top 10 at #9 with 90 sales including 86 cabriolets, the BMW 3 Series up 17 ranks to #12, the Seat Leon up 13 to #18 and the Mini Countryman up to #28.

Big event this month in Slovenia: for the first time since June 2011, new car sales are up year-on-year at +8% to 4,702 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 17,470 units, down 7% on 2012. No surprise atop the models ranking: the podium is identical to last month and to the year-to-date ranking: the Renault Clio leads the way with 339 sales and 7.2% followed by the VW Golf at 204 units and 4.3% and the VW Polo with 159 sales and 3.4%.

The Skoda Octavia is up a very healthy 7 spots on March to #4 and the Citroen C4 is back up 23 to #9 but the most impressive progression in the Top 10 this month is delivered by the Fiat 500, up from outside the Top 50 last month directly to #7 with 121 sales and 2.6%, two-thirds of which are the convertible version which seems odd. Perhaps a one-off order from one of the rental companies in business in Slovenia in preparation for summer? Other noticeable movements include the Dacia Duster up 6 to #12, the Peugeot 3008 up 9 to #14, Ford B-Max up 13 to #17, Hyundai i30 up 19 to #19, Skoda Rapid at #28 and Skoda Superb at #33.

Like in February, it is followed by the VW Golf at 248 units and 5.4% with the VW Polo rounding the podium both in March and year-to-date. The Kia Cee’d is solid at #4 with 114 sales and 2.5%.

Excellent performances of the Peugeot 208 up 5 spots on last month to #6, the Kia Sportage up 3 to #7, Nissan Juke up 10 to #14, Dacia Duster up 32 to #18, BMW 3 Series up to #24 and the Peugeot 301 up 10 ranks to #37 with 39 units and 0.9% share.

The new car market slows down its fall in Slovenia, down ‘only’ 8% year-on-year in February to 3,807 registrations, which brings the year-to-date total to 8,190 units, down 10% on 2012. The Top 2 models stay unchanged compared to last month: the Renault Clio dominates once again with 246 sales and 6.5% while the VW Golf improves its market share to a brilliant 6% thanks to 228 units sold. #2 over the Full Year 2012, the Renault Megane is up 2 spots on last month to climb back into the podium at #3 with 114 sales and 3%, only one unit above the Kia Cee’d stable at #4.

Another excellent month for the Skoda Fabia up one rank to #5, the Citroen C4 is up a massive 26 spots to #6 vs. #39 in 2012, the Kia Rio is up 11 to #8, Kia Sportage and Fiat 500L both stable at #10 and #16 respectively, the Peugeot 5008 is up 9 to #21 vs. #51 in 2012, the Ford B-Max drops 3 spots to #27, the Citroen DS3 is up 31 to #28, BMW X3 up 35 to #34, Seat Leon up to #47, the Peugeot 301 breaks into the Slovenian Top 50 for the first time at #48 and the Opel Mokka is up 28 ranks to #54.

Slovenian new car sales are down 13% year-on-year in January to 4,383 registrations. The Renault Clio continues to dominate with 301 sales and 6.9%, but is followed this time on the podium by two Volkswagens: the Golf is up one spot on December to #2 at 223 units and 5.1% and the Polo is up 5 to #3 with 176 sales and 4%. The Kia Cee’d excels, up 7 ranks to #4 at 128 units and 2.9%, as do the Skoda Fabia up 4 to #6 with 120 sales and 2.7% and the Kia Sportage up 7 to #9 at 80 units and 1.8% vs. #19 in FY2012.

But to my view the biggest event in Slovenia this month is the arrival within the Top 20 of the Fiat 500L, produced in neighbouring Serbia, up a gigantic 42 spots on December to #16 with 63 sales and 1.4% share. This makes Slovenia only the second country in the world after Italy where the 500L has managed to break into the Top 20 so far. Notice also the Dacia Lodgy up to a best-ever #18 at 61 units and 1.4%, the Ford B-Max up 23 ranks to #24, BMW X1 up to #31, Toyota Auris up to #38, the Citroen C-Elysee up to #39 for its first full month in market while its twin the Peugeot 301 ranks #65.
