Shock, horror: new car sales in Oman are actually down 4% year-on-year in July to 19,919 registrations, a very rare feat in the region. The year-to-date total however is up 9% on 2012 to 126,442 units. No surprises on top: the Toyota Hilux is leader once again thanks to 2,347 sales and 11.8% share, slightly below its year-to-date level of 12.5%. The Toyota Prado gains one spot on June to land in 2nd place at 1,654 units and 8.3% vs. 7.9%, benefitting from a particularly weak month for both the Toyota Land Cruiser Pick-up down to 6.8% vs. 9.4% year-to-date and the Toyota Land Cruiser down to 5.6% vs. 7.9%.

Exceptional month for the Nissan Sunny boosted by the new generation, up 2 spots to land in third positionwith 1,386 sales and 7.5%, by far its highest share in the country in a long while. In fact it is the first time since I follow the Omani car market monthly in January 2011 that a non-Toyota manages to rank on the Omani podium! (Note that little trick may have been helped by the fact that Sunny data is aggregated into one model this month).
