Austria August 2012: 10 VAG models in Top 11!

The Austrian new car market is down 5% year-on-year in August to 24,570 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 239,796 units, down 1% on 2011. While last month the Volkswagen Group (VAG) placed 7 models in the Top 8, in August its domination is even more extensive… For the third consecutive time, the Austrian podium is 100% Volkswagen: the Golf leads the way with 1.237 sales and 5% share, ahead of the Polo at 1,032 and 4.2% and the Tiguan at 704 and 2.9%, replicating the 2012 year-to-date ranking.

7 of the 8 models that follow are part of the VAG Group, making it 10 VAG models in the Top 11! The Seat Ibiza is up 4 spots on July to #4 with 519 units and 2.1%, the Skoda Octavia is down one to #6, the Audi A4 down 3 to #7, the VW Sharan up 4 to #8, the VW Passat up 4 to #9, the VW Bus up 13 to #10 and the Audi A3 stable at #11. Note there are 18 VAG models in the Top 30 this month. Year-to-date, the VAG domination is also striking, monopolising with the entire Top 6 with the Golf, Polo, Tiguan, Octavia, Fabia and Ibiza on top.

The Hyundai i20 is the only non-VAG model in the Top 11!

The only non-VAG model in the Top 11 this month is the Hyundai i20, up 5 ranks to a fantastic 5th place with 465 sales and 1.9%. Other great performers in August in Austria include the Peugeot 208 up 5 to #13, Kia Rio up from outside the Top 50 to #15 vs. #32 year-to-date, the Seat Leon up 25 spots to #20 vs. #50 year-to-date, the Seat Altea up 17 to #21 vs. #47 and the Mercedes C-Class up 10 to #30 vs. #58.

Austria July 2012: VAG Group places 7 models in Top 8

New car sales in Austria are down 4% year-on-year in July to 28,268 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 215,226 units, down 1% on 2011. The Volkswagen group continues to totally dominate the Austrian car market: the podium is 100% Volkswagen for the second consecutive month, with the VW Golf leading with 1,053 sales and 3.7% ahead of the VW Tiguan at 970 units and 3.4% and the VW Polo with 847 sales and 3%. The Top 5 is 100% VAG Group: the Audi A4 is up 4 spots to #4 (vs. #12 year-to-date) and the Skoda Octavia down one to #5, and there are 7 VAG models in the Top 8 with the Skoda Fabia at #7 (+6) and the Seat Ibiza at #8 (+14).

Seat Alhambra

Year-to-date, VAG’s domination is equally strong with the podium 100% VW once again (Golf-Polo-Tiguan) and the entire Top 6 composed with VAG models with the Skoda Octavia at #4, the Skoda Fabia at #5 and the Seat Ibiza at #6… Other great performers in Austria in July include the Hyundai i20 up 6 spots on June to #10, the Audi A3 up 26 to #11, the Kia Cee’d up 5 to #14, the Fiat 500 up 19 to #17, the Peugeot 208 up 16 to #18 and the Seat Alhambra up 8 to #21 (vs. #40 year-to-date).

Austria June 2012: VW Tiguan and Hyundai ix35 at their highest

The Austrian new car market is back in positive in June at +3% year-on-year to 33,068 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 186,958 units, now down just 0.3% on 2011. For the first time since last December, Volkswagen monopolises the models podium with the VW Golf at #1 with 1,378 sales and 4.2%, the VW Tiguan reaching its strongest ever monthly volume in Austria, highest ranking at #2 and 2nd best ever market share at 3.7%, below the 4.3% it reached last December. The VW Polo is up two spots on May to rank #3, followed by the Skoda Octavia also up 2 to #4.

Exceptional performance of the Hyundai ix35, up a huge 44 ranks on last month to land at a best-ever 5th position with 699 sales and 2.1%, beating ranking, volume and market share records for the model in Austria, its previous best being #10 last December. Other great performers in the Top 10 include the Renault Scenic up 17 spots to #6, the Renault Clio up 37 to #7, the Audi A4 up 5 to #8 and the VW Sharan up 6 to #9. Further down, notice also the VW Touran up 14 ranks to #14, the Seat Alhambra up 11 to #29 and the Mazda CX-5 breaking into the Austrian Top 50 for the first time at #50.

Austria May 2012: Hyundai i30 up to #2, Audi Q3 in Top 20

New car sales in Austria are down 6% year-on-year in May to 32,398 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 153,890 units, down just 1% on 2011. The VW Golf is #1 for the 27th month in a row with 1,851 sales and 5.7%, its highest market share in the country so far this year. But the best performer this month is the Hyundai i30, helped by its new generation and up to #2 for the first time since November 2010 thanks to 965 sales and 3% share.

Audi Q3

The Seat Ibiza is up 8 spots on last month to climb onto the Austrian podium for the first time since last September with 917 sales and 2.8%, while the Audi Q3 breaks into any country’s Top 20 for the first time in Austria to rank #17 with 366 units and 2.1%. Other great performers this month include the Opel Zafira up 3 ranks to #10, the BMW 1 Series up 7 to #12, the BMW 3 Series up to #16, the Nissan Juke is up to #21, the Peugeot 208 breaks into the Top 50 for the first time at #33 and the Skoda Superb is up 20 spots to #37.

Austria April 2012: Audi A1 up to best-ever #14, Q3 up to #25

The Austrian new car market alternates between year-on-year growth and decline this year and in April the market is in negative at -2% and 32,728 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 121,492 units, up just 0.2% on 2011. The Top 4 best-selling models are unchanged compared to last month: the VW Golf enjoys its 26th consecutive month at #1 with 1,207 sales and 3.7%, followed by the VW Polo at 820 units, the Skoda Fabia at 815 and the VW Tiguan at 804, all 3 models at 2.5% share.

Audi Q3

The VAG group extends its domination further, placing the Skoda Octavia at #6 and the Audi A4 at #8, up 15 spots on March. The other great performer in the Top 10 is the Renault Scenic up 13 ranks to #9, while the Ford C-Max is also up 13 spots to #12. The Audi A1 is up to a best-ever 14th position with 450 sales and 1.4% share, the new generations BMW 1 and 3 Series take off, both up 23 ranks on March to #17 and #19 respectively.

Notice also the VW Up! up 8 spots to a best-ever #22, the Audi Q3 up 2 to a record #25, the Kia Rio up 7 to #33 and the Toyota Yaris up 21 to #29.

Austria March 2012: New gen Opel Zafira climbs up to #7

The new car market in Austria is back in positive in March, up 6% year-on-year to 37,933 registrations and bringing the year-to-date total to 88,764 units, up 1% on 2011. Volkswagen unsurprisingly monopolises the Top 2 spots with the Golf #1 for the 25th consecutive time with 1,456 sales and 3.8% followed by the Polo at 1,321 units and 3.5%. The Skoda Fabia is back to its traditional form after dropping to #17 in February and rounds up the podium this month with 1,010 sales and 2.7%.

The VW Tiguan stays extremely solid at #4 and 795 units, ahead of the Nissan Qashqai up 3 spots on February to #5 and now #8 year-to-date vs. #27 over the Full Year 2011! The other shining star in the Austrian Top 10 in March is without contest the Opel Zafira: thanks to the new generation now in dealerships it is up 16 ranks on last month to #7 with 760 sales and 2% share, the nameplate’s first time in the Top 10 in over 2 years.

Other great performers this month include the Hyundai ix35 (#18) and Citroen C4 Picasso (#19) maintaining themselves within the Top 20 whereas their 2011 levels were #35 and #28 respectively, the Audi Q3 reaching its highest ranking in the world at #27 and 1% share and the VW Up! is back up to #30 after slipping out of the Top 50 last month.

Austria February 2012: New Fiat Panda an instant hit

Month off for Austrian car sales, down 9% year-on-year to 24,005 registrations, bringing the year-to-date to 50,831 units, down 2% on 2011. While the VW Golf celebrates two full years (or 24 consecutive months) in pole position with 954 sales and 4% share, the VW Polo is back to its traditional 2nd place at 625 units and 2.6% while the Opel Astra is up one spot on January to rank #3 with 527 sales and 2.2%, making the February podium identical to the Full Year 2011 one.

In 4th place the VW Tiguan continues its outstanding run in Austria at 513 units and 2.1%, followed by the Seat Ibiza (+1), Skoda Octavia (-3) and Hyundai i30 (+2). The Nissan Qashqai, only #27 in 2011, is up to a fantastic 8th place this month with 399 sales and 1.7%. But February’s hero in Austria is the new gen Fiat Panda, up to #11 at 362 units and 1.5%, by far the nameplate’s highest ranking in the country in at least 2 years.

Other good performers this month include the Opel Zafira up to #23 with 274 sales and 1.1%, the BMW 1 Series up 18 spots to #26, the Audi Q3 breaking into the Austrian Top 50 (and 40!) for the very first time at #36 with 220 units and 0.9%, and the Mercedes B-Class in the Top 50 for the first time in years at #44 with 191 sales and 0.8%.

Austria January 2012: Skoda Yeti up to best-ever 5th place

The Austrian car market is up 5% year-on-year in January to 26,826 registrations. The VW Golf is the best-selling car in the country for the 23rd consecutive month but its market share drops from 6.4% in December to 3.8% this month. While VW managed to place 5 models in the Top 6 in December, in January it’s another brand in the VAG Group that can celebrate: Skoda has 3 cars in the Austrian Top 5!

The Fabia is up to #2, its highest ranking in over two years, with 987 sales and 3.7% while the Octavia ranks third, its strongest showing in 6 months, at 877 units and 3.3%. Below the Opel Astra, stable at #4 and 2.6%, we find the Skoda Yeti up to a best-ever 5th position with 579 sales and 2.2% share.

Other great performers this month include the Kia Cee’d up to #12, Hyundai ix35 at #14, Kia Rio up to #22, Kia Sportage up to #26, Opel Zafira up to #28, the VW Up! making its very first appearance in the Austrian ranking at #29 with 266 sales and 1% share, the Skoda Superb up to #32 and Mitsubishi ASX up to #36.

Austria December 2011: VW Tiguan delivers its best-ever month Full Year 2011: VW Golf, Polo and Opel Astra on podium

Austrian car sales are up very robust 15% in December to 23,358 units, bringing the final 2011 total to 356,145 registrations, up 8%.

In December, Volkswagen monopolises the podium for the third month in a row and places no less than 5 models in the Top 6! The VW Tiguan breaks all the nameplate’s record since its launch in October 2007 with a best-ever 2nd spot, 1,003 sales and 4.3% share. The Hyundai ix35 breaks into the Austrian monthly Top 10 for the first time at #10.

Opel Astra

Over the full year, the VW Golf leads with 16,777 sales and 4.7% (-1%) ahead of the VW Polo at 11,916 units and 3.3% (-3%) and the Opel Astra up 3 spots and 17% to 8,158 sales and 2.3%.

The Seat Ibiza and Skoda Fabia are both stable at #4 and #5 followed by the Skoda Octavia up 17% to #6. The Opel Meriva is up 15% to #8, the VW Passat up 64% to #9, VW Sharan up 75% to #11 and Ford Focus up 58% to #14.

Austria November 2011: VW Tiguan confirms podium position

The Austrian new car market is up 8% both in November at 30,339 registrations and year-to-date at 332,787 units. Volkswagen continues to dominate the models ranking head and shoulders and monopolises the podium again. The VW Golf is the best-seller for the 21st month in a row with 1,279 sales and 4.2%, reinforcing its 2011 leadership at 15,274 units and 4.6%.

The VW Polo stays #2 with 1,027 sales and 3.4%, adding up to 11,000 units and 3.3% year-to-date. This month’s best performer in Austria is the VW Tiguan again, improving on an already outstanding month of October to reach a very robust 2.8% market share thanks to 856 sales. It is now #13 year-to-date at 1.5%. The Skoda Octavia (#4) and Fabia (#5) exchange positions, both above their 2011 levels.

Further down the ranking, the VW Sharan is back in the Top 10 at #8, the Audi A1 reaches its best score ever in Austria (as it has done in Germany), up to #15 with 438 sales and 1.4%, the Hyundai ix35 is up 21 spots on October to #18 and the Kia Rio is up 13 ranks to #59.
