Algeria November 2011: Hyundai Atos keeps the lead

Another outstanding month for car sales in Algeria, up a massive 61% year-on-year to 23,598 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 270,451 units, up a very respectable 32%. For the third consecutive month, Hyundai is the best-selling brand ahead of Renault, a very rare occurrence. It sells 4,510 units vs. 4,475 for the French brand. And for the 2nd month in a row the Hyundai Atos is the most popular car in the country with a very solid 2,177 sales and 9.2% market share. It is still #2 year-to-date however at 18,103 units and 6.7%.

Dacia Logan

Just as we thought it had disappeared from the Algerian podium for good, the Dacia Logan is back with a vengeance, up to #2 with 2,052 sales and an excellent 8.7% share, by far its best score in 12 months. It is #5 year-to-date. The Hyundai Accent stays #3 with a robust 7.3% share, well ahead of its 2011 level at 5.8% (#3 also). The Peugeot 207 ranks 4th with a very strong 6.8% share, ahead of the 2011 leader the Renault Symbol at 6.2%. The Chevrolet Sail is down 4 spots to #6 and the VW Polo reappears in the Top 10 at #9.

Algeria October 2011: Hyundai Atos & Chevrolet Sail on top

Whopping month for car sales in Algeria, up 60% year-on-year at 26,200 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 246,853 units, up 33%. For the second month in a row, Hyundai leads the models ranking (traditionally a Renault privilege) with 5,692 sales and 21% share, up 142% year-on-year (!) vs. 3,612 units and 13.8% share for Renault.

Hyundai Atos

For the first time, the Hyundai Atos takes the lead of the Algerian market with a very impressive 2,648 sales and 10.1% share. Another surprise follows: the new Chevrolet Sail, imported from China, improves again and gains 2 ranks on September to land in 2nd place with a record 2,028 units and 7.7% share. It is now #10 year-to-date with 5,975 sales even though it is only on sales since May.

Excellent performance for the Hyundai Accent at a very robust 1,909 sales and 7.3% share vs. 4.8% year-to-date, while the Renault Symbol, still #1 year-to-date by far at 26,109 sales and 10% share, is down to a humbling 5th place at 5.3% share. The Peugeot 207 is back in the Top 10 at #5, the Kia Picanto is solid again at #6 and the Dacia Logan is down to #7.

Algeria September 2011: Chevrolet Sail up to #4

The Algerian car market continues to impress and should finish the year above 250,000 units. The Renault Symbol is in the lead again in September with 2,537 sales but is threatened by the Hyundai Atos at 2,370 units. The Symbol is #1 in the 2011 year-to-date ranking by a large margin with 24,712 sales vs. 13,278 for the Atos. The Hyundai Accent is #3 both this month and YTD.

The Chinese-imported Chevrolet Sail reaches new heights in Algeria, breaking into the monthly Top 5 for the very first time to land in 4th position this month with 1,048 sales, just above the Suzuki Alto at 1,017 units. The Dacia Logan has definitely lost touch with the podium at #6 with 803 sales, while the Kia Picanto is up 7 spots on August to #7.

Further down the ranking, notice the Seat Ibiza up to #11, the VW Tiguan up to #15, the Nissan Micra at #18 and the Renault Fluence at #26. There are two more Chinese models in the Top 40: the Chery QQ at #29 with 127 sales and the Haima Family at #39 and 98 units.

Algeria August 2011: Chevrolet Sail up to #7

Thanks to Autoblog Español I can share with you the best-selling models in Algeria: the Renault Symbol stays on top by far with 2,126 sales. In fact the podium is identical to July with the Hyundai Accent (from two generations ago) #2 at 1,589 units and the Hyundai Atos #3 with 1,439 sales.

The Peugeot 207 is up 3 spots t0 #4 at 1,190 units, passing the Dacia Logan (1,118 sales). The Suzuki Alto has an excellent month at #6 and the Chevrolet Sail, imported from China, reaches its best position yet in Algeria in 7th place with 907 sales. Other good performers this month include the Seat Ibiza (#17), Hyundai new Tucson (#19), Hyundai i10 (#20) and Suzuki Alto K10 (#22) imported from India.

Algeria July 2011: Hyundai Accent up to second place UPDATED

Unsurprisingly the Renault Symbol stays on top with 2,659 sales – that’s 28% less than in July 2010 – and reinforces its leadership year-to-date at 20,049 units. The Hyundai Accent (most of the sales are still the 2003 generation pictured above) jumps 2 spots to #2 with 1,915 sales, up 25% year-on-year, and is followed by the Hyundai Atos at 1,686 units, down 5%.

The Dacia Logan is back in the Top 5 for the first time since February this year, up 3 spots on June to 4th position with 1,627 sales, up a massive 31% year-on-year. The Toyota Hilux rounds up the Top 5 at 1,482 units, down 2%.

Algeria June 2011: Chevrolet Sail confirms Top 10 spot – UPDATED

Extremely healthy new car market in Algeria with sales up a massive 40% year-on-year in June at 27,215 units and up 28% over the 1st Half of 2011 at 149,174 registrations. The Renault Symbol stays distant leader with 3,703 sales and 13.6% share, 11.7% over 6 months.

In June the Peugeot 207 reclaims the 2nd spots it holds over 2011 with 2,275 sales and 8.4%, a much stronger share than in its native France! Its year-to-date figure for 2011 is up a whopping 114%. The prehistorical Hyundai Atos and Accent follow, the Toyota Hilux is strong at #5 and the Suzuki Alto stays robust at #6 with close to 5% of the Algerian market.

For only its 2nd month of sale in the country, the Chevrolet Sail, directly imported from China, improves its May score by 57% to reach 903 sales and 3.3% share and maintain itself in the Top 10 in 10th place. Notice the Zotye Nomad 4WD at #41 with 150 sales.

Algeria May 2011: Chinese import Chevrolet Sail in Top10

Thanks to Autoblog Español, I am able to share with you the best-selling models in Algeria in more detail than usual this month.

May 2011 will be remembered as the first month a Chinese import managed to rank within the Algerian Top 10. The Chevrolet Sail manages this feat for its very first month of sales in the country at #8 with 575 units.

The Top 4 is unchanged vs. April, with the Renault Symbol leader by far at 3,731 sales, ahead of the Hyundai Atos (2,011 units), Peugeot 207 (1,741) and Hyundai Accent (1,700). The Suzuki Alto has an excellent month at #5 with 1,234 sales and the Dacia Logan is up to a still shy 6th place.

Algeria April 2011: Hyundai Santa Fe in Top 10 for the first time

The Algerian car market continues on its amazing run this year, up 25% in April at 25,534 registrations and up 32% year-to-date at 100,315 units. The Renault Symbol improves on its already imposing market share to reach 11.7% in April thanks to 2,990 new sales.

Hyundai places 3 models in the Top 6: the Hyundai Atos is up 2 spots at #2 with 1,462 sales and 5.7%, the Hyundai Accent is up 1 spot at #4 with 1,266 units and 5% and the Hyundai Santa Fe delivers the performance of the month: it breaks into the Top 10 for the first time in Algeria at #6 with 931 sales and 3.6% market share.

The Peugeot 207 drops to 3rd place but stays solid at 5.7%. It is #2 year-to-date at 5.2%. The Renault Clio III is #5 at 3.9%, the Kia Picanto drops 6 spots to #8 but ranks 5th year-to-date at 3,819 sales, up 169% year-on-year. The Dacia Logan is stuck at a worrying 9th place, down 69% this month. It is #3 year-to-date with 4,023 sales and 4%, down 43%.

Algeria March 2011: Renault Symbol leads, Kia Picanto #2

Outstanding month for new car sales in Algeria: the market is up 40% year-on-year in March at 25,971 registrations, and 35% year-to-date at 74,781. The Renault Symbol keeps the lead with 2,469 sales and 9.5%, and this month it is followed by the Kia Picanto and Peugeot 207, both at 1,525 sales and 5.9%.

Hyundai stays strong with the Atos in 4th place at 5.2% share and the Accent in 5th at 4.7%. The Dacia Logan has a weak month in 9th place at 2.3%, it is however #3 year-to-date with 3,306 sales and 4.4%. The Peugeot 308 slips into the Top 10 at 510 units and 2% share.

Algeria February 2011: Symbol #1, Duster in Top 10

Car sales are up 8% in Algeria in February at 18,733 registrations. The Renault Symbol stays on top at a pretty high 1,884 sales figure and 10.1% of the market. The Peugeot 207 has a strong month at #2 with 1,227 units (6.5%).

The Dacia Logan is down to 3rd at 1,134 sales (6.1%) but its big brother the Dacia Duster breaks into the Top 10 for the first time in Algeria with 429 units and 2.3% share.
