Colombia January 2018: Chevy Spark leads, Renault Alaskan #3 pickup

The Chevrolet Spark is the best-selling vehicle in Colombia in January.

The Colombian new car market is down 4.6% year-on-year in January to 16.447 registrations, its lowest January level since 2010 (14.788). Leader over the Full Year 2017 but #2 in December, Chevrolet reclaims the monthly pole position and drops just 1.5% to 16% share, widening the gap with Renault down 13% to 12.6%. Nissan (-16%), Mazda (-16%) and Kia (-14%) all under-perform in the remainder of the Top 5 whereas Toyota soars 46% at #6. Both Volkswagen (+21%) and Hyundai (+19%) also post double-digit gains in the Top 10, while below, Peugeot (+279%), JMC (+184%), Citroen (+156%), Audi (+98%), Mitsubishi (+76%), Subaru (+57%), Mini (+33%), Mercedes (+23%) and BMW (+22%) also impress.

The Renault Alaskan ranks #3 pickup below the Toyota HIlux and Nissan Frontier. 

In the models ranking, the Chevrolet Spark leaps to 10.5% and the pole position (vs. 6.9% over the FY2017), taking a significant advantage over 2017 leader the Renault Sandero down to 7.7%. The Chevrolet Sail rounds up the podium ahead of the Renault Duster and Logan with the Kia Picanto at #6. The Chevrolet Tracker is up two spots on FY2017 to #7 while Mazda places both the 3 (#8) and 2 (#10) in the Top 10. The Toyota Prado surges to #13 vs. #24 in FY2017, the Hilux is up to #15 vs. #30, the Fortuner is up to #24 vs. #36 and the Renault Alaskan breaks into the Colombian Top 30 for the very first time at #29 or third best-selling pickup below the Hilux and Frontier. The Chevrolet Equinox makes its first appearance in the Top 50 at #42.
