Bahrain First Half 2017: Land Cruiser and Prado top market down 34%

The Toyota Land Cruiser remains the #1 vehicle in Bahrain despite a 52% sales drop.

New car sales in Bahrain freefall 34% year-on-year over the First Half of 2017 to 17.752 registrations. Market leader Toyota plunges faster at -44%, seeing its dominant market share thaw from 43.8% a year ago to 37.2% now. Hyundai on the other hand, “restrains” its fall to -15% to overtake Nissan (-41%) and snap the 2nd place overall with 9.7% share. Kia for its part drops just 1% to pass Lexus (-49%) for #4. Honda, Mazda and Chevrolet all decline 7% for significant market share gains. Reversely, Mitsubishi (-36%), Ford (-47%), Isuzu (-52%) and Jeep (-39%) are all losing share. At #16, Audi is the first manufacturer to gain volume year-on-ytear at +14%. Chinese Geely (+47%), Dodge (+8%), Ram (+323%), Peugeot (+6%) and Volvo (+8%) are the only others in the Top 30.

The Toyota Land Cruiser remains the best-selling nameplate in the country despite losing more than half of its sales compared to a year ago (-52%) to 8.1% market share. In 2nd place a year ago, the Toyota Hilux implodes down 80% to a paltry 9th spot so far in 2017, however remaining and by far the country’s best-selling pickup truck. The Toyota Prado (-5%) nudges up one spot to #2, the Corolla (-25%) is dup two to #3 as is the Yaris (-6%) to #4. The Hyundai Accent (-1%) is the most popular non-Toyota in Bahrain and the nlty one in the Top 10 with the Nissan Sunny (#8). The Toyota Hiace, Camry, Hilux and RAV4 make it 8 Toyotas in the Top 10 while the Lexus LX, down 50% to #11, makes it 9 Toyota Motor nameplates in the Bahraini Top 11. In a see of heavy losses, the Hyundai Elantra (+4%), Kia Sportage (+57%), Hyundai Creta (+150%) and Kia Picanto (+257%) make themselves noticed while the Nissan Kicks lands at #32, the best-selling newcomer above the Infiniti Q30 (#43) and Geely X7 Sport (#59).
