Uruguay October 2016: Volkswagen takes YTD lead, Renault up 74%

Volkswagen is now #1 year-to-date in Uruguay so far this year.

The Uruguayan new car market is down 3% year-on-year both in October to 3.816 registrations and year-to-date at 34.870. Just as the brand is getting pummelled in neighbouring Brazil, Volkswagen is up 5% in October to hit 14.2% share, and with Fiat down 33% to #4, this means VW is now the best-selling manufacturer in Uruguay so far in 2016, this for the very first time. Renault surges 74% to 12.6% share vs. 9.4% year-to-date but Suzuki freefalls 39% to 9.1%. Ford (+220%), Hyundai (+35%), Kia (+43%), Toyota (+38%), Geely (+71%) and Tata (+117%) impress whereas Peugeot (-21%), Chevrolet (-54%) and BYD (-41%) struggle. All-in-all, Chinese manufacturers follow the market at -3% to 13.3% share vs. 14% year-to-date.
