Portugal August 2016: Mercedes teases Renault for #1 brand
Mercedes stops 9 units short off market leadership in Portugal in August.

The Portuguese new car market is up 13% year-on-year in August to 10.708 units, lifting the year-to-date tally up 15% to 144.966. The brands race finish is a particularly close one this month in Portugal: Renault (+21%) leads with 1.058 sales just ahead of Mercedes at 1.053 (+8%) and Peugeot at 1.050 (+61%). Mazda (+33%), Honda (+37%), Seat (+52%), DS (+39%), Lexus (+47%), Alfa Romeo (+54%), Suzuki (+62%) and Hyundai (+79%) post particularly strong gains in August. The Renault Clio remains the most popular vehicle in the country with sales up 33% to 534, followed by the Peugeot 208 (+118%), VW Golf (-22%), Nissan Qashqai (+16%) and Mercedes A-Class (-20%). Notice also the Peugeot 308 (+39%), Opel Astra (+135%), Peugeot 2008 (+148%), Seat Ibiza (+77%) and Mercedes E-Class (+72%) all posting spectacular gains.
