Malaysia June 2016: Perodua soars 22% in stable market

The Malaysian new car market levels with its score from a year ago in June at 57.358 units (-0.1%), meaning a First Half 2016 tally down 15% to 275.459. Perodua vastly outperforms the market with sales up 22% to 20.044 and 34.9% share, in line with its 35.3% year-to-date level, Honda is back to the 2nd spot it holds year-to-date thanks to deliveries up 7% to 9.254 for a 16.1% share, distancing Proton at 12.1% (-25%) and Toyota at 11.9% (-24%). Nissan gains 13% to #5, Isuzu is up 9% to #6, BMW up 13% to #10, and beyond the Top 10 Hyundai (+23%), Daihatsu (+38%), Kia (+38%), Chevrolet (+56%), Subaru (+78%) and Renault (+100%) take off.

The top of the BSCB Exclusive models ranking is unchanged on May with the Perodua Axia leading at 16.5% share ahead of the Perodua Alza, Perodua Myvi, Proton Saga, Honda HR-V and Toyota Vios. If last month most Toyota nameplates got a boost, this time it’s the turn of Honda, with the Accord up 9 spots on May to #12, the CR-V up 19 to #16 and the Civic also up 19 to #18. Further down, notice the Mercedes GLE and Toyota Alphard both remaining strong at #39 and #42 respectively and the Kia Rio up 14 to #47.
