Ireland July 2016: Hyundai now best-selling brand year-to-date

Now in its fourth year, the bi-annual license plate change inspired from the UK and applied to Ireland in 2013 is getting more successful each year: at 29.902, July 2016 sales are up 8% on July 2015, itself up 47% on July 2014 which was up 61% on July 2013. The year-to-date tally is now up 19% to 131.240 units after 7 months. Like last year, Hyundai becomes the #1 brand in Ireland in July thanks to deliveries up 27% to 4.010 but this time the shift is a lot more momentous as it also means Hyundai is now #1 year-to-date with 14.459 sales and 11% (+35%), distancing Toyota at 13.952 (+19%) and Ford at 13.424 (+25%) while 2015 leader Volkswagen is down 1% to a paltry 4th place and 13.407 units.

All Top 10 July brands gain ground bar VW (-19%) and Opel (-16%) with Ford (+23%) and Renault (+22%) very dynamic. Outside the Top 10, Dacia surges 30% to #11, Mercedes is up 37% and Land Rover up 54%. Model-wise, the Hyundai Tucson is more dominant than ever with a whopping 1.796 sales earning it a 6% market share, well ahead of the Ford Focus (3.9%), Nissan Qashqai (3.7%) and Ford Fiesta (3.4%). The Skoda Octavia is up 7 spots on June to #5, the Renault Kadjar up 43 to break into the Top 10 at #9, the Hyundai i30 up 38 to #19 and the Renault Captur up 73 to #13.
