With a little delay this month we can now publish BSCB Exclusive all-market data for Mexico, a market that shows no sign of tiring: May is the 17th straight month of record sales with volumes up a stunning 19% year-on-year to 121.594. This also marks 13 consecutive months above 100.000 monthly deliveries, boosting the year-to-date tally up 17% to a record-breaking 587.355 units after just five months. At this pace, the Mexican market is looking at a 2016 annual result between 1.58 and 1.6 million sales which would be an astounding 18% improvement on record 1.351.764 established in 2015.

Once again, market leader Nissan is starting to pant a little, failing to keep pace with the industry with deliveries up just 8% to 28.644 and 23.6% share: a 2.4 point-drop on the 26% it commended in June 2015. On the other hand, Chevrolet gains a splendid 25% to 23.360 and 19.2% vs. 17.1% so far in 2016. Volkswagen rounds up the podium, growing slightly slower than the market at +16% to 16.778 and 13.8% share. Below, Toyota continues to outpace its competitors with an impressive 32% gain to 7.927 sales and 6.5%, distancing Ford (+8%) while Honda, although outperforming the market at +28% to 6.222, is now under threat from Kia once again breaking its monthly record to lift it to 4.610 sales and 3.8% share. Cadillac (-45%), Chrysler (-52%), Land Rover (-55%) and Smart (-56%) skid, but Mercedes (+29%), Buick (+35%), Suzuki (+37%), Porsche (+40%), Hyundai (+52%), Jaguar (+110%) and most strikingly Renault (+130%) impress.

Model-wise, the Nissan Versa posts a 6th consecutive month in the driving seat thanks to sales up a gargantuan 47% year-on-year to 6.028 and 5% share. It is however under pressure this month from the Chevrolet Spark, also up 47% on May 2015 to 5.866 units and 4.8% of the market thanks to the new generation of the model now widely spread across the country. The Chevrolet Aveo (-3%) remains third, the Nissan Pickup (+5%) is up one spot on April to #4 but the VW Vento falls 6% to #5. The Chevrolet Sonic continues its ascent at +80% to #7, the VW Gol shines at +38%, as do the Ford Figo up 10 spots on April to #14, the Chevrolet Silverado up 131% to #17, Toyota Yaris up 116% to #20 and Renault Duster up 159% to #29.
