China LCV June 2016: Pickup sales surge 36%
The Great Wall Wingle 5 is the best-selling pickup in China.

Thanks to a partnership with Chinese consultancy outlet Cedars, we can share with you today detailed sales data for Light Commercial Vehicles in China with complete Minivan, Pickup and Mini Truck data by model as well as selected light truck/bus data provided by LMC Automotive. Chinese LCV sales continue to struggle at -17% in June to 252.603 and -12% year-to-date to 1.695.351. However the detail by segment unveils a striking novelty: minivan are stuck in a race to the bottom at -48% to 33.825 sales, mini trucks for once also crumble at -21% to 35.104 – yet outselling minivans for the 2nd consecutive month – but the heroes of the month are pickups. Bolstered by a change in legislation allowing them in the large cities of four provinces for the first time in 12 years (click here for more detail on this), pickup sales in China returned to positive for the first time in over two years in April and posted their first double-digit gains in 3 years in May. In June, their revival accelerates further to a whopping 36% to 28.581 units.
JMC Baodian
They are led as usual by the Great Wall Wingle 5, stable at 5.015 sales, followed by the JMC Baodian (+28%), Dongfeng Rich (+47%), ZX Auto Grand Tiger (+6%), JMC Yuhu (+239%) and Great Wall Wingle 6 (+57%). In fact, only four of the 20 pickups ranked in this month’s charts lose ground year-on-year. In May 2015, we had detailed the Chinese pickup market as the low-hanging fruit in our analysis Where is the Chinese market headed? and it seems the Chinese government reads BSCB… In other LCV news, the Foton Light Truck retains the lead with sales up 4% to 19.175, the Wuling Hongguang V is up to #2 but down 1% and the Wuling Mini Truck uncharacteristically falls 42% to #3.
