It’s green lights on all counts for new car sales in Norway, up 7% in May to 12.864 registrations and up 6.5% so far in 2016 to 64.068 units. Market leader Volkswagen evolves exactly like the market at +7% to 2.222 sales and 17.3%, which means its direct followers are catching up: Toyota gains a fantastic 46% to 1.687 deliveries and 13.1% share, of which a staggering 1.491 or 88% are hybrids (see further down) while German premium fares Mercedes (+28%) and BMW (+20%) also frankly outpace the market contrary to Audi (-8%). Skoda (+23%), Opel (+44%), Hyundai (+93%) and Jaguar (+533%) also shine whereas Volvo (-34%), Subaru (-32%) and Tesla (-55%) struggle.

Volkswagen Passat GTE Variant…while 59% of all VW Passat sold were the PHEV GTE version.

Over in the models aisle, the VW Golf’s sovereignty is starting to erode somewhat, with sales down 20% year-on-year to 1.054 and 8.2% share, with 28% of sales for the PHEV variant, 25% for the eGolf. The Mitsubishi Outlander is up 39% to 553 units (89% PHEV) and the VW Passat surges 125% to 530 deliveries (59% PHEV). Toyota places three hybrid-boosted nameplates just below: the Yaris at #4 (97% hybrid), Auris at #5 (96%) and RAV4 at #6 (95%). The Skoda Superb is up 5-fold on May 2015 to break into the Norwegian Top 10 at #10 , the Mazda CX-3 is up a further three spots on April to #12, the VW Tiguan up 77 ranks to #15 thanks to the new generation and the Mercedes GLC is up 34 spots to a fantastic 18th place.
