Just as neighbour Algeria is crumbling apart, new car sales in Morocco are up 8% to a record 130.316 registrations, a lonely ten units above the previous all-time best reached in 2012. This historical figure was made possible by a particularly high level of sales in December at 17.300 units, up 26% year-on-year. The Moroccan market is split between 120.906 passenger cars (+10%) and 11.029 light commercial vehicles (-11%). The Renault Group is once again untouchable atop the local sales charts with 38.2% share, followed by Peugeot-Citroen – about to open its very first Moroccan factory in Kenitra – at 10.9% and Ford at 9%. The French-Romanian low-cost brand Dacia continues to dominate the rankings head and shoulders at 28.7% of the market thanks to sales up 11% to 37.392 above Renault at a round 10% (+13%) and Ford. Hyundai, Fiat, Peugeot and Volkswagen follow.

For the second year running, the four best-selling nameplates in Morocco are all Dacias: an even better performance than at home in Romania where Dacia only holds 3 spots in the Top 4… The locally-produced Logan is the best-seller for the third year running despite sales down 2% ahead of the Dokker (+6%), Sandero (-14%) and Duster (+4%) while the Lodgy takes off at +769% to #9 overall thanks to its involvement in a campaign started in late 2014 to renew the country’s ‘large taxi’ parc thanks to government aid. The Fiat Doblo (+28%), also very popular with taxi companies, is the most popular non-Dacia nameplate in Morocco with 5.497 sales. Renault places the Clio IV and Kangoo in the Top 8 like in 2014. The Peugeot 301 is down 19%.
