Being an unincorporated state of the United States, Puerto Rican new car sales data is not accounted for in the U.S. updates. For the second year in a row, the Puerto Rican new car market is down at – 7% to 83.668 registrations after dropping 12% in 2013. FCA Fiat Chrysler Automobiles ranks 5th above Ford (#6) while General Motors is down an abysmal 28% to a paltry 10th place overall just above Mercedes (+32%), BMW (+8%) and Lexus (+49%) all going against the grain and posting year-on-year gains.

Kia Soul Puerto Rico 2015The Kia Soul ranks at an excellent 10th place in Puerto Rico in 2015.

Model-wise, the Toyota Corolla celebrates there consecutive years on top despite sales down 16% to 7.159, followed by the Toyota Yaris (-13%) and Hyundai Accent (-11%). The Kia Rio (-5%) and Toyota RAV4 (-7%) gain share and overstep the Mitsubishi Mirage which tumbles down 45% to #6. The Toyota Tacoma (+20%), Hyundai Tucson (+78%) and Kia Soul (+36%) all break into a Top 10 which is now 100% Asia: the Jeep Wrangler is down 26% to #11. With the Jeep Grand Cherokee at #18, it’s the only U.S. nameplate in the Puerto Rican Top 20 this year. Notice also the Nissan Murano up 114 spots to #37 and the Jeep Renegade landing directly at #40. Finally, the Ram pickup managed to snap the #1 US pickup crown off the Ford F-Series thanks to sales up 3% to 838 vs. 718 (-37%).
