Like Italy and Spain, Portugal is on a recovery slope that seems as never-ending as its descent to hell did a few years back. January sales are up 18% to 13.940 and February up 26% to 18.029, leading to a year-to-date total up 22% to 31.969 after two months. So far in 2016, the same five brands feature in the Top 5 as for the FY2015 but in a slightly different order: Renault (+20%) remains in pole position but Peugeot (+17%) overtakes Volkswagen to make it a French 1-2, while BMW (+13%) outpaces Mercedes (+15%). Opel (+47%), Fiat (+40%), Dacia (+39%) and Mazda (+268%) frankly beat the market. Even though it was outsold by the Peugeot 208 in January, the Renault Clio reclaims its throne in February to lead the year-to-date models charts with 1.481 sales. The Renault Captur shoots up 80% year-on-year in February and nudges up one spot year-to-date vs. 2015 to #5. The Citroen C3 (+42%), Opel Astra (+79%) and Mercedes CLA (+97%) also shine.
