Czech Republic January-February 2016: Top 4 best-sellers 100% Skoda

The Skoda Superb is up 109% to #3 overall at home in 2016…

Nothing can stop the Czech new car market: January (17.500 sales) and February (19.299) are new records for each month, lifting the year-to-date to an all-time high 36.799 units after two months, up a whopping 15% on the same period last year which was a record at the time. According to Medea Research, re-exports account for as much as 17% of total sales in the Czech Republic in February, the monthly total would be just 16.143 without them. Local behemoth Skoda reinforces its domination at home thanks to the new generations Fabia and Superb: it gains 25% to 12.809 sales in two months or 34.8% market share vs. 31.9% over FY2015.

…but the Skoda Octavia remains by far the market leader. 

Volkswagen tumbles down 12% but remains 2nd at 9.5% share above Hyundai (-8%), Ford (+18%) and Dacia (+6%). In February, Kia is up 40% to #6, Peugeot up 57% to #7 and Renault up 27% to #8. In the models ranking, the Top 4 best-sellers are all Skodas for the first time since November 2012, and this both in January and February. So far in 2015 the Octavia has a solid grip on the charts with 4.591 sales (+24%) ahead of the Fabia at 3.376 (+95%), the Superb at 1.796 (+109%) and the Rapid at 1.664 (-18%). The Ford Fiesta is the best-selling import at #5 but 70% of its local sales are in fact re-exported. The VW Passat is up to #9 year-to-date, the Kia Sportage is up to #15 in February while the Hyundai Tucson ranks 16th.
