Austria February 2016: Volkswagen Group places 8 models in Top 9

The Austrian new car market is up 9% year-on-year in February to 22.495 registrations, lifting the year-to-date total to 46.514 sales, up 6% on 2015. The Austrian consumer has supported embattled manufacturer Volkswagen is a definitely more dedicated way than even at home in Germany: it beats the market at +17% in February and +10% year-to-date, in each case close to 17% share. Opel (+13%) is back up to #2 while Renault climbs on the podium thanks to sales up a stunning 46%. Audi (+3%) and Ford (+22%) both take advantage of a particularly weak score from Skoda (-21%) to leap up to #4 and #5 respectively. Notice also Peugeot (+39%), Kia (+51%), Honda (+102%), Mini (+56%) and Jaguar (+231%).

Model-wise, the VW Golf sheds 2% over the first two months of 2016 but remains well above the Skoda Octavia (+13%) at 2.277 sales vs. 1.535. In fact, Volkswagen places no less than five nameplates in the February Top 6 and the VAG Group has 8 of the Top 9… The VW Bus (aka T6) is at #3, followed by the Polo, Tiguan, Touran up 160% to #6, then Leon up 86% to #8 and Ibiza at #9. Only the Opel Astra (#7) stands out. Other impressive performers include the Hyundai Tucson breaking into the Austrian Top 10, the Audi A1 up 343% to #12, BMW X1 up 383% to #13 and Mazda CX-3 at #36.
