Sweden Full Year 2015: Volvo XC60 snaps first podium, record market

With new car sales up an outlandish 13.5% year-on-year, the Swedish market posts an all-time record year in 2015 at 345.108 registrations, eclipsing the 343.963 units hit in 1988. At 200.115 deliveries, diesel vehicles represent a very strong 58% of the market, albeit slightly below the 59.3% they reached last year. Volvo remains sovereign at home, beating the market with sales up 16% for an improved 20.6% market share. Like in 2014, it is followed by Volkswagen (+15%), Toyota (+6%), Audi (+10%) and BMW (+9%). Further down, let’s single out Nissan (+32%), Porsche (+48%), Lexus (+49%), Jeep (+68%), Mini (+70%), Smart (+100%), Tesla (+273%) and Cadillac (+689%) all lodging spectacular gains.

Over in the models ranking, the Volvo V70 lodges a 19th consecutive year atop the charts, frankly outpacing the market with sales up 21% to 28.613 for an imposing 8.3% share. The VW Golf does even better in 2nd place at +35% while at #3 the Volvo XC60 jumps 26% and two spots to post its first ever podium ranking. The Skoda Octavia (+28%) and Audi A6 (+19%) make their entrance inside the Top 10, with the Skoda Fabia (+32%), Mitsubishi Outlander (+36%), Peugeot 308 (+38%) and Kia Rio (+53%) strong. The Volvo XC90 (#38) and Subaru Outback (#40) are the most popular new entrants of 2015.
