After gaining 18% in 2014, the Spanish new car market is up another 21% or almost 200.000 sales in 2015 to cross the symbolic one million annual sales milestone for the first time since 2008 at 1.041.276 registrations. Spain is now well out of recession and has improved 49% since the low of 700.562 in 2012. However if in 2014 the growth came mainly from private sales, this year businesses are doing the heavy lifting with sales up 32% to 275.596 compared to +19% to 588.909 for private sales and +14% to 176.571 short-term rentals. All-in-all very healthy figures though. Volkswagen tops the brands ranking for the 4th year in a row but lags behind the market at +15%, resulting in a reduced 8.5% market share, and the same goes for Seat: #2 again but up ‘just’ 14% to 7.5% share.

Renault (+19%) overtakes Opel (+15%) for third place while Peugeot (+22%), Ford (+17%) and Citroen (+13%) hold onto their ranking. Nissan jumps 39% to #8, Kia 43% to #11, Mazda is up 54%, Mitsubishi up 61%, Jaguar up 80%, Smart up 99% and Jeep up 205%. A very rare feat, all Top 32 brands lodge year-on-year gains. Model-wise, the Seat Leon posts a 2nd consecutive (and ever) year in pole position. If in 2014 its advantage over stablemate and perennial market leader the Seat Ibiza was a meagre 142 units, this year it has improved to 1.853 thanks to sales up 20% vs. +14% for the Ibiza. The VW Golf gains two spots to land on the podium at #3, the Dacia Sandero is up 3 to #4 while the VW Polo is down two to #5.

Thanks to the new model, the Nissan Qashqai is back up 35% to 6th place, with the Opel Astra (+30%), Peugeot 308 (+36%), 208 (+28%), 2008 (+67%) and Opel Mokka (+95%) displaying outlandish growth rates within the Top 30. The Citroen C4 Cactus ends its first full year in market at #23, while the Hyundai Tucson (#56), Renault Kadjar (#70) and Fiat 500X (#86) are the only three all-new models in the 2015 Spanish Top 100. Finally, notice the Jeep Renegade up to #92, the Ford Ecosport up 323% to #94 and the Jaguar XE landing at #144.
