It’s a 12 out of 12 perfect score for the Mexican new car market in 2015: incredibly, each and every month of the year set a new all-time record for that month, culminating in December with 160.675 units, up 21% year-on-year and simply the biggest sales month in the history of automobile in the country. The annual market is up by a fantastic 19% or 216.000 units to 1.351.764 registrations, smashing the previous record of  1.139.718 established in 2006. Mexico remains the only country in the world to crown Nissan, evolving like the market at +19% to 347.124 deliveries and 25.7% share, followed like in 2014 by Chevrolet (+18%), Volkswagen (+12%), Ford (+11%), Toyota (+22%), Honda (+22%) and Mazda (+40%).

Hyundai is up 118% to finish its first full year in market at a splendid 9th position with 26.151 units. Notice also Ram and Mitsubishi both up 38% to cement their place in the Top 15, Porsche up 24%, Cadillac up 32% and Alfa Romeo up 209%. After Hyundai in 2014, it’s the turn of sister company Kia to launch in Mexico in July this year, totalling 11.021 units in 7 months and arriving directly at #18 above Mercedes, Fiat and Peugeot, with only three nameplates in its lineup (Forte, Sorento and Sportage). This is an ever better start than Hyundai that sold 12.064 units in 8 months in 2014, with both manufacturers above 2.000 monthly units by the end of their initial year in market. The Sportage sold more units than any Hyundai in December (1.156 vs. 990 for the Grand i10) and broke straight away into the 2015 Top 50 at #49.

Dodge Attitude Mexico April 2015The Dodge Attitude flirted with the overall Top 20 all through the year.

The Chevrolet Aveo is the most popular nameplate in Mexico for the 4th consecutive years, seeing its market share erode slightly to 5.7% with sales up 17% to 76.695. It is followed like in 2014 by the Nissan Versa (+20%) and Pickup (+14%), the commercial variant of the NP300, with the passenger variant, the Frontier, up 37% to #30. Total NP300 sales (70.471) would pus the nameplate to #2 overall. The VW Vento (+38%) and Jetta (+36%) both lodge spectacular gains along with the Nissan March (+36%), all three of them overtaking the ageing Nissan Tsuru (+8%). The Chevrolet Sonic is up 38% to break into the Top 10 at #10, the Mazda3 is up 49% to #11, the Nissan X-Trail is up 120% to #13 thanks to the new model and the Toyota Yaris up 98% to #19.
