The Malaysian new car market is up 7% year-on-year in September to 51.106 registrations, yet the year-to-date total is still in negative territory at 485.338 units, down 1% on 2014. Perodua frankly outpaces its home market with sales up 20% year-on-year to 14.479 albeit at a much lower market share than usual (28.3% vs. 32.5% year-to-date), followed by Proton at 17.1% (+8%), Toyota at 15.4% (+6%), Honda at 14.7% (+22%) and Nissan at 7% (+7%). The Top 5 best-selling manufacturers hold a mammoth 75.5% of the Malaysian market this month, with no other brand managing to grab a share superior to 2.5%. Mazda is up 29%, Mercedes up 124% (!), Subaru up 58% and Audi up 33%, but Hyundai is down 44%, Volkswagen down 48%, Peugeot down 52% and Kia down 74%.

Model-wise, the Perodua Axia continues its one-car show at 14% share, and this month the Proton Saga, thanks to a very solid score at 9.6% share, edges past the Perodua Myvi for the 2nd spot overall in 2015 at 40.272 units vs. 39.343. The Honda City retakes the title of best-selling foreigner off the Toyota Vios at #5, the Honda HR-V continues to lodge astounding sales figures in 7th place overall and the Mercedes GLE brilliantly breaks into the Malaysian Top 50 at #49.
