Hong Kong (China) August 2015: Toyota Alphard overtakes Hiace

The Toyota Alphard is the best-selling nameplate in Hong Kong in August.

Although part of China since 1997, Hong Kong car sales still follow an old pattern: they are reported by HKMTA separately from the mainland Chinese market in which they are not included. In August, new car sales in Hong Kong are down 5% year-on-year in August to 4.358 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 37.016 units, up 8% on 2014. Toyota is more dominant than ever with 1.281 sales and 29.4% market share, distancing BMW (9.2%), Mercedes (8.4%), Isuzu (8.1%) and Honda (6%) while Porsche is up to #9 and Lexus remains #10.

The Porsche Macan ranks 7th in Hong Kong this month.

Over in the models ranking, the Toyota Alphard outsells the traditional #1 the Hiace at 305 sales and 7% vs. 239 and 5.5% to sign its first ever Hong Kong pole position. Toyota monopolises the Top 4 with the Coaster at #3 and the Crown LPG Taxi at #4, while the Honda Stepwagon is solid again at #5, the Porsche Macan surges 24 ranks on July to #7, the Lexus NX is up 9 to #8 and the BMW 2 Series Tourer is up 14 to #11. Excellent showing of the Audi TT up 85 spots to a brilliant 15th place with 61 sales or 41% of its 2015 Hong Kong sales so far.
