Spanish new car sales are evolving at their highest level in six years in July, crossing the 100.000 annual mark for the month for the first time since 2009 at 103.524 registrations, up a splendid 24% year-on-year and lifting the year-to-date total to 662.083 units, up 23% on 2014. Keep in mind these very substantial gains have a lot to do with a scrappage scheme that has been extended to last the entire year. If Volkswagen keeps the lead of the brands ranking despite sales up just 11% to 9.520 and 9.2% share, Peugeot surges 4 spots on June to land in 2nd place thanks to deliveries up 40% to 7.826. The French manufacturer is followed by compatriots Renault (+19%) and Citroen (+32%) with domestic carmaker Seat struggling in 5th position (+4%) but staying at #2 year-to-date.

Citroen C4 Cactus Spain July 2015The Citroen C4 Cactus continues to be more successful in Spain than in France.

The list of manufacturers outpacing the market to display explosive gains in Spain this month is long: BMW (+32%), Audi (+36%), Toyota (+38%), Nissan (+41%), Honda (+42%), Volvo (+49%), Mitsubishi (+50%), Mazda (+51%), Lexus (+52%), Skoda (+60%), Porsche (+75%) all impress, whereas Smart (+149%), Jaguar (+203%) and Jeep (+265%) literally take off. Over on the models ranking, the VW Golf is up 8 ranks on June to snap up the top spot for the first time since January 2014 thanks to 3.015 sales and 2.9%, it remains 4th year-to-date however. The Seat Leon is knocked down to 2nd place at 2.923 units and 2.8% and holds onto its 2015 pole position at 22.468 sales and 3.4% above its little sister the Seat Ibiza at 21.944 and 3.3%. The VW Polo rounds up the podium both in July and year-to-date.

Strong showings of the Nissan Qashqai at #6 (+9 on June), the Peugeot 308 at #8 (+5), Opel Astra at #9 (+3) and VW Tiguan at #12 (+18). The Citroen C4 Cactus, assembled locally in Madrid, is up 5 spots on last month to return to its all-time best ranking at #15 with 1.636 sales and 1.6%, a position it also held last March. Notice also the Ford Ka up 36 ranks to #21, the Mercedes GLA up 21 to #37 and the Renault Kadjar slicing its June ranking in two to break into the Spanish Top 50 at #43. Further down, the new Hyundai Tucson lands directly at #95 with 291 sales, the Jaguar XE is up 65 spots to a cool #107 ranking, the Mazda CX-3 is up a shy 4 ranks to #131, the Opel Karl up 34 to #154 and the Ssangyong Tivoli up 24 to #171.
