New car sales in the Philippines are on a roll in 2015: up 20% on an already record period in 2014 to 154.583 registrations. This means the Filipino market is on track to break the 300.000 annual sales milestone only two years after passing 200.000 for the first time… Toyota remains ultra-dominant and evolves with the market at +20% to 57.717 sales and 37.9% share while Mitsubishi drops more than 3 percentage points of market share year-on-year due to sales up just 1% to 25.198 and 16.6%. However Mitsubishi’s acquisition of the former Ford manufacturing facilities in Santa Rosa, Laguna in January shows the Japanese manufacturer means business in the Philippines, as this plant has a capacity of 50.000 annual vehicles according to the local press. Hyundai is down 8% to 10.689 sales and will in all logic lose its podium spot by the end of the year to either Ford (+18%) but more likely Isuzu (+58%) pushed by the fantastic success of the MU-X SUV landing directly in 8th place. Inside the Top 10 brands, notice also Honda up 53%, Nissan up 36% and Suzuki up 65%.

In the models ranking, the Top 4 is now monopolised by Toyota vs. Top 4 in both H1 and FY 2014. The Toyota Vios continues to be the favourite choice of Filipino customers with a stunning 11.2% of the market, followed by the Fortuner (7.2%), Innova (5.9%) and Hiace (5.5%). The Vios and Innova are manufactured locally, and have helped Toyota pass the 1 million sales mark since the start of its operations in the Philippines by April this year. The Vios regularly breaks monthly sales records for a single nameplate, lifting the figure to 2.886 units in May and 3.000 in June. The Mitsubishi Montero Sport drops to #5 and we find another Toyota in 6th place: the Wigo which is a rebadged Daihatsu Ayla imported from Indonesia. The Mitsubishi Mirage G4 shines at #9, as do the Ford Ranger outselling the Toyota Hilux to become the best-selling pickup in the Philippines at #7, the Ford Ecosport at #10, Suzuki Ertiga at #25 and Nissan NP300 Navara at #27.
