For the very first time on BSCB we can share with you official detailed sales data for Tanzania. 2.472 new light vehicles found a buyer in the country over the first 6 months of 2015 – including commercials, and Toyota holds an almost unattainable pole position in the market with just under 1 in every 4 sales. Suzuki follows at 10.8% share above Kia (9%), Ford (8.3%), Isuzu and Hyundai (both at 7.8%). BMW ranks at a surprisingly high 7th place with 6.8% share, with Land Rover rounding up the Top 10 at 3.2%. Model-wise, it’s a surprise on top: whereas we had estimated the Toyota Hilux to lead the Tanzanian sales charts in 2014, it in fact ranks at a low #8 and it’s the Suzuki Carry that holds the top spot with 3.5% share. This result is however to be taken with a grain of salt as a look into Tanzanian used cars websites shows the Carry stopped being sold in the country in 2000, and the Carry does not appear on Suzuki Tanzania’s website. Strange. In any case, Toyota holds all remaining spots in the Top 4 with the Prado, RAV4 and Land Cruiser 70 Pick-up most popular. The Honda Accord lodges an excellent 5th place with 2.5% share, while the Suzuki Grand Vitara, Ford Kuga and Toyota Coaster also make an appearance in the H1 2015 Tanzanian Top 10.
