Czech Republic May 2015: Skoda Fabia at highest in almost 3 years

The Czech new car market continues on its extraordinary run this year: up another 18% year-on-year in May to 18.167 registrations – the 5th largest monthly total ever – lifting the year-to-date total to a record 92.062 units, up a fantastic 21% on 2014. Homegrown Skoda outpaces the market, up a splendid 27% to 5.794 sales and 31.9% share, ahead of Volkswagen at 1.788 (+25%), Hyundai at 1.368 and Ford at 1.267. Dacia is up 39% to #5 and Opel up 26% to #7. The Skoda Octavia is the best-selling nameplate at home once again with 1.991 sales and 11% share but the Skoda Fabia, boosted by the new generation, is closing the gap at 1.597 deliveries and 8.8%, its strongest market share since October 2012 when it hit 11.4%. The last time the Fabia took the annual top spot in the Czech Republic is 2008. Other great performers this month include the Ford Fiesta at #6, Seat Leon at #9, Opel Astra at #11 and Nissan Qashqai at #18. Finally, notice the Peugeot 2008 at #32, outselling the 208 (#35), Clio (#36) and Captur (#45).
