For the first time on BSCB I can share with you official sales data for Guatemala, albeit for the first quarter of 2014 – results coming through a year late however indicative of the Full Year 2014 situation. If you have more recent information about the Guatemala market please make sure to get in touch. After a 3.5% drop in 2013 to 26.370 registrations compared to 27.351 in 2012, 2014 sales are up a very dynamic 30% year-on-year over Q1 to 6.609 registrations. Over the period, pickup trucks are up 35% to 1.768 sales, SUVS up 10% to 1.458 units, hatchbacks up 36% to 1.107 and sedans are up 51% to 967 deliveries.

Mazda BT-50 Guatemala 2014The Mazda BT-50 should rank on the Guatemalan podium this year.

Local Asociación de Importadores y Distribuidores de Vehículos Automotores (AIDVA) ranks brands for the Top 3 segments in the country and at this little game Toyota wins both pickups (42.4% share) and SUV (23.8%) rankings while Hyundai is leader in hatchback sales at 33.9% share. Reading between the lines, this means the Toyota Hilux is by far the best-selling vehicle in the country with 749 sales and 11.3% share over the period, with the 2nd spot a battle between the Hyundai Accent and Mazda BT-50. The highest-ranking Chinese manufacturers all do so in the pickup charts: Chana at #9, JMC at #11 and Great Wall at #12.
