Ecuador Full Year 2014: Chevrolet Sail and D-Max on top

2014 marks a return into positive territory for new vehicle sales in Ecuador, up 5.5% year-on-year to 120.060 registrations. Chevrolet literally owns the market in Ecuador, holding a mammoth 44.6% market share and selling almost 4.5 times more than any other brand. It even tightens its stranglehold thanks to sales up 7% in 2014. Kia follows at a round 10% share, above Hyundai (8.8%) while Mazda is up two spots to #4 and 5.8% above Toyota and Nissan. Chinese manufacturers are up a splendid 37% to 5.104 deliveries and 4.3% share vs. 3.3% in 2013, led by Great Wall breaking into the overall Top 10 thanks to sales up 28%, JAC at #12 and Dongfeng up 8-fold year-on-year thanks to the launch of its DFSK light commercial vehicle arm in the country.

The Chevrolet Sail is the best-selling nameplate in Ecuador for the third year in a row but sees its market share thaw to 9.6% due to sales up just 2% and may be threatened for pole position in 2015 by the Chevrolet D-Max boosted up 73% by the new models and landing in 2nd place overall with 10.657 deliveries and 8.9% share. With the Grand Vitara and Aveo Family following, Chevrolet monopolises the Top 4 as it has been the case for the past 3 years, and the Mazda BT-50 is the best-seller among other models in 5th place followed by the Kia Sportage.
