For the third consecutive month, South African new vehicle sales display an encouraging positive trend: +1% year-on-year in November to 51,098 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 593,076 deliveries, now down by just 1.6% on 2013. Toyota, Volkswagen, Ford and Hyundai-Kia are the best-selling manufacturers once again, with Nissan overtaking General Motors/Isuzu for 5th place this month. Critical event in the models ranking: the Ford Ranger jumps past both its archenemy the Toyota Hilux and the VW Polo Vivo to land in the overall pole position for the first time ever in the nameplate’s career! It sells a record 3,054 units for an all-time high 6% market share, the culmination of consistently outstanding performances over the past 12 months: #5 twice in a row (December 2013-January 2014) then up to a best-ever #4 for 6 consecutive months (February-July 2014) to finally break onto the South African podium for 3 months in a row (August-October 2014). The Ranger lifts its South African record ranking directly from #3 to #1 this month.

As a result of this coup, the Toyota Hilux remains #2 at 5.7% share and the VW Polo Vivo is knocked down two spots to #3 and 4.5%. Year-to-date however the ranking stays unchanged with the Hilux in the lead (5.8%) ahead of the Polo Vivo (5.2%) and Polo (4.6%) while the Ranger ranks 4th at 4.3%. Excellent performance of the Nissan NP300 up one percentage point on its YTD level at #4 and 3.8%, the Toyota Quantum up 3 to #7 and Ford Ecosport up 4 to #12. Finally, for its second full month of sales in the country the Datsun Go already breaks into the South African Top 20 at #20 thanks to 461 sales giving it just under 1% market share. Promising.
