The Spanish new car market is not looking back: up another 26% year-on-year in September to 76,418 registrations, which brings the year-to-date total to 718,527 units, up 18% on 2013. In both cases (October and YTD), these are the best scores since 2009. Renault is the star of the month with sales up 36% to 7,503 units and 9.8% share, that’s 2.5 percentage points above the brand’s YTD level (7.4%)! The French manufacturer is well above Volkswagen (8.2%), Ford (up 32%), Peugeot (both at 7%), Seat (6.9%), Opel (up 44% to 6.9% also) and Citroen (6.8%). It places two of its models atop the sales charts: the Mégane takes the lead for the first time since September 2012 thanks to 2,599 sales and 3.4% share while the Clio is up 5 spots on September to rank #2 at 2,303 units and 3%.

Other brands delivering strong Spanish sales in October include Dacia up 106%, Hyundai up 41%, Kia up 53%, Mercedes up 56%, Mitsubishi up 72%, Lexus up 63% and Jeep up 79%. In the models sales charts, the Seat Ibiza (#3) and Leon (#4) climb back up the ladder after lacklustre September performances and cement their domination in the YTD ranking where they hold the first and second spots respectively. The Toyota Auris is up two further ranks to a splendid 8th position, the Renault Captur is up 6 to #13, the Toyota Yaris up 4 to #17, Hyundai i20 up 37 to #30, Citroen C4 Cactus up 8 to #33 and the Mercedes GLA is down 11 to #44 but manages the incredible: only a few months after its launch it is Mercedes’ best-seller in Spain just above the A-Class (#45) and C-Class (#46).
