Romania September 2014: Skoda Rapid jumps up to 2nd place

The evolution of the Romanian new car market in September is consistent with the rest of 2014 so far: up 24% year-on-year to 5.561 registrations, which brings the year-to-date total to 51,564 units, up 26% on 2013. No surprises, local manufacturer Dacia continues to dominate the brands ranking in spite of sales down 4% to 1.445 units for a 26% market share, however if year-to-date it is the only brand above 10, 20 and 30% share, in September Volkswagen (+111% to 14.7% share) and Skoda (+36% to 10.1%) also break the symbolic 10% market share milestone. Notice also Ford up 71%, Renault up 53%, Opel up 63%, Mazda up 97%, Seat up 76% and Volvo up 125%. Model-wise, below the Dacia Logan #1 for the 121st straight month (just over one decade!), the Skoda Rapid jumps 4 spots to smash its ranking record in Romania in 2nd place with 4.2% share, the VW Golf is up 5 to #3, the VW Jetta up 8 to #5, Passat up 4 to #8, Fiat 500 up 9 to #10, Dacia Dokker up 10 to #11 and the VW Touareg above its lil bro the Tiguan at #23 vs. #35 year-to-date.
