Thanks to SMMT, I can share with you once again the detailed models ranking for each nation in the UK. Keep in mind this is a zoom in into each nation, all figures are already included in the overall UK August update. Compared to the UK average of 9% gain year-on-year this month, England over performs at +11%, Wales and Scotland are in line at +9% and +8% respectively, while Northern Ireland shockingly drops by 3% year-on-year. The first sign of a slowing down of new car sales in the UK? This month the main event is the Vauxhall Mokka appearing in the Top 10 of 3 out of 4 nations. But there is much more going on, so check out each nation’s update and ranking below.

Seat Ibiza UK August 2014The Seat Ibiza ranks #10 in Scotland this month.

In Scotland, the Ford Fiesta delivers a bumper month at 7.3% share thanks to 472 sales, almost double the amount of the #2 model the Ford Focus at 250 units and 3.9%. The Fiesta thus increases its advantage over the 2013 leader the Vauxhall Corsa to 939 units and 7,275 vs. 6.336. The Vauxhall Astra (+1 on July), VW Polo (+3) improve while the Vauxhall Mokka is back inside the Top 10 at #7 with 2.3% share, the Dacia Sandero does the same at #8 and 2% share and the Seat Ibiza makes its first appearance of the year among the nation’s 10 most popular vehicles at #10 with 1.7% share.

Hyundai ix35 UK August 2014The Hyundai ix35 is now among the year-to-date Top 10 best-sellers in Northern Ireland.

In Northern Ireland, the VW Golf takes the lead for the third time in the past 5 months, up two spots on July to 148 sales and 3.9% share but still #2 year-to-date below the Ford Fiesta at 1,360 sales and 3.3% vs. 1,661 and 4%. #1 last month, the Nissan Qashqai falls to #9 in August, below the Vauxhall Mokka making its very first appearance in the Northern Irish monthly Top 10 at #8 with 77 sales and 2% share. Notice also the VW Polo up 5 ranks on July to #3, the Hyundai ix35 ip a further two spots to #7 and breaking into the year-to-date Top 10 at #9 and the Renault Captur reappearing among the nation’s 10 best-sellers at #10 and cementing its #8 spot so far in 2014.
