In July the Venezuelan new car market is up an encouraging 46% on June but still down a devastating 82% year-on-year to just 1,585 registrations. We can see a couple of manufacturers starting to come back to life: General Motors is up 418% on June to top the sales charts with 451 units and 28.5% share, overtaking Civetchi (aka Dongfeng) at 410 units and 25.9% – all of them the pick-up which remains on top of the models ranking both for July and year-to-date. Toyota for its part is up 400% on last month to third place overall with 310 sales and 19.6% and Mitsubishi and Ford are both at 229 and 162 units respectively, holding 14.4% and 10.2% of the market. As that’s pretty much it as far as manufacturer still in activity in Venezuela in these troubled times. Model-wise, notice the Chevrolet Silverado up to #2 with 15.1% share while its commercial vehicle variant the C3500 is third at 9.1%, adding up to 24.2% which would earn the model the pole position above the Civetchi Pick-up. The Mitsubishi Montero Sport, Toyota Corolla and Fortuner are the only other nameplates to sell more than 100 units in Venezuela this month.
