The Bulgarian new car market is up 8% year-on-year in May to an estimated 2,624 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 13,130 units, up 12.5% on 2013. Bulgarian sales data is always to be taken with a pinch of salt as a large portion of new car sales in the country never make it to local roads but are re-exported elsewhere in the European Union, given Bulgaria is home to some of the lowest car prices in the EU. See here for more on this phenomenon. Brand-wise, Dacia continues to reign supreme at 15.3% share, way above Toyota (9.1%), Volkswagen (8.8%), Renault (7.7%), Ford (7.6%) and Skoda (7.5%).

In the models ranking, the Dacia Dokker reclaims the pole position it holds year-to-date thanks to 183 sales and 7%, more than double any other vehicle in the country. The Skoda Octavia is knocked down to 2nd place but is up to #3 year-to-date below the Nissan Qashqai. Other great performers include the Toyota Yaris up 13 spots on May to #7, the Great Wall Steed up a huge 73 ranks to make its reappearance inside the Bulgarian Top 10 at #8, the VW Golf up 65 to #15 and the Toyota Aygo up 65 to #19.
