Norway April 2014: VW Golf reclaims #1 spot off Tesla Model S

Whereas the European market is slowly waking up from 6 years of lethargy, new car sales in Norway are down a surprisingly harsh 13% year-on-year to 12,115 registrations in March, bringing the year-to-date total to 48,607 units, still up 2% on 2013. Brand-wise, Volkswagen is now frankly above Toyota at 15.6% share vs. 10.1% this month and 13.1% vs. 11.4% year-to-date. BMW is up one spot on March to land at an outstanding third position, a ranking it also holds year-to-date. Notice also Skoda back up 3 ranks to #8, Mercedes up to #9 and Peugeot up to #10.

In the models ranking, the Tesla Model S continues its seesaw career: #1 last month, it is down to #19 in April and loses the year-to-date pole position to the VW Golf which, in spite of sales down 15% year-on-year, leads the way in April at 766 units and 6.3%. The Nissan Leaf is up two ranks on March to a fantastic 2nd place with 451 sales and 3.7% share, the Skoda Octavia is up 58% year-on-year at #4, the VW Up up 178% to #5 and the Suzuki SX4 up 206% to #22, while the BMW i3 continues to impress at #15 with 236 units and 1.9% of the market. Further down, the Peugeot 308 up 1033% to #26, the BMW X5 up 425% to #69 and the Porsche Macan lands at #83.
