Australia March 2014: New sedan pushes Toyota Corolla to #1

New car sales in Australia stabilise in March at just -0.1% to 97,267 registrations, bringing the first quarter total to 266,370 units, down 2.4% on 2013. Toyota delivers its best first Quarter since 2010 at 48,121 sales and 18.1% share, up to 18.8% in March. Holden reclaims the 2nd spot off Mazda this month thanks to 9,851 sales and 10.1%, delivering the biggest year-on-year gain in the Top 10 at +19% vs. 9,203 and 9.5% for Mazda which remains #2 year-to-date for now however. Nissan is down 28% but back up to #6 while Kia reappears inside the Top 10 at #10.

In the models ranking, boosted by the arrival of the new gen sedan, the Toyota Corolla reclaims the pole position it held over the Full Year 2013 off the Mazda3, delivering the nameplate’s best-ever March score at 4,086 sales and 4.2% share (+16%). Down to #2, the Mazda3 however keeps the lead in the year-to-date ranking, while the Toyota Hilux rounds up the podium at 3,105 units, just above the Holden Commodore up a spectacular 85% year-on-year to 2,967 sales thanks to the new generation.  The Ford Ranger is strong at #6 (+36%) and the Toyota RAV4 delivers its all-time high monthly volume at 1,888 units in 9th place, its best ranking ever, also reached last August.
