USA January 2014: Toyota RAV4 and Nissan Rogue up

New light vehicle sales in the US start the year on the wrong foot: down 3% on January 2013 to 1,012,582 registrations. Ford remains the most popular brand in the country in spite of sales down 9% to 147,521 units and is followed this month by Toyota (-9%), passing Chevrolet (-13%). Nissan is up a beautiful 10% to become #4 carmaker in the US ahead of Honda (-4%) while Jeep is up a splendid 38% to #7 and 41,910 sales. After a weak December (#16), Kia is back up to its traditional 8th spot, Subaru maintains itself among the 10 most popular brands in the country at #10, Infiniti is up 26% on January 2014, Lincoln up 42% and Maserati up 230% to 567 sales.

In the models ranking, with the Ford F-Series at #1 followed by the Chevrolet Silverado and the RAM Pick-up (+22%), the 3 best-sellers are all pick-up trucks for the third time in the last 4 months but only the 4th time in 8 years (since February 2006). The Toyota Camry is back to #1 passenger car in 4th place overall in spite of sales down a harsh 27% to 23,332 units. The Toyota Corolla is up 6 spots on December to land at #5, ahead of the Nissan Altima up two to #6 with the Ford Fusion also performing well at #8. The Toyota RAV4 is up 45% to #12 (the last time it ranked higher in the US was in October 2010), the Hyundai Elantra up 26% to #14, the Nissan Rogue up 54% to a best-ever 16th place, the Subaru Forester up 64% to #24 and Toyota Highlander up 21% to #25 while the Jeep Cherokee ranks 26th for its third month in market at 10,505 units and the Volvo V60 makes its very first appearance in the US ranking at #219 with 322 sales.
