Indonesia January 2014: Honda Mobilio breaks into Top 20

New car sales in Indonesia are up a very healthy 9% year-on-year in January to 103,494 registrations, and once again Toyota is by far the best-selling carmaker thanks to 34,552 sales for a 33.4% market share. No surprises in pole position: the Toyota Avanza still reigns supreme with 16,312 units and 15.8% share while the Toyota Agya seems to start stabilising just above a brilliant 6% share at 6,522 sales and 6.3%, ahead of the Toyota Innova at 5.2% which makes the podium 100% Toyota this month. The Daihatsu Xenia is back up to #5 but still far off its FY2013 level of #2 and 5.3% share, whereas the Daihatsu Ayla loses a bit of steam, down 3 spots on December to #7 and 3.6%.
Suzuki Karimun Wagon R
There are a few interesting movements and newcomers further down the Top 20 this month: the Honda Brio Satya (low priced green car) repeats the 12th spot it hit last November thanks to 2,297 sales and 2.2% while its slightly more up-market twin the Honda Brio is up to #16 and 1.8% share. We welcome the Suzuki Karimun Wagon R among the 20 most successful models in the country at #17 with 1,693 sales but the most interesting development is the arrival of the Honda Mobilio at #18 with 1,508 units and 1.5%. The Mobilio is a small MPV variant of the Brio produced locally that is squarely targeted at the Toyota Avanza. It will be fascinating to follow its progression over the next couple of months. Finally, notice the Chevrolet Spin just outside the Top 20 at 1,160 sales.
