Turkey Full Year 2013: Fiat Linea #1 again, Renault Symbol up 70% to #2

(Note these figures include LCV) The Turkish new car market is up a very robust 10% year-on-year in 2013 to 853,378 registrations. Brand-wise, Volkswagen is the most popular this year thanks to 112,056 sales and 13.1% while Ford, pushed my a mammoth month of December (#1), stops just 156 units short of snapping the #2 spot away from Renault at 108,155 sales vs. 108,311. Fiat (11.4%), Opel (6.6%) and Hyundai (5.8%) are the only other brands above 5% share this year. Traditionally dominated by locally-produced LCVs, the Turkish models ranking seems to gave shaken off this trend this year, with only one LCV inside the Top 8 vs. 4 in the Top 6 last year.

The Fiat Linea is the best-selling vehicle in the country for the 2nd year running, and by far, improving last year’s performance by 13% to 37,537 sales and 4.4%, while the Renault Symbol, #1 PC in 2011 but down to #11 overall in 2012, is back up 70% and 9 spots to #2 this year with 27,988 units and 3.3% thanks to the new model. The Renault Fluence is up one rank to #3 with 24,153 sales and 3.2% and the Ford Transit remains #4 in spite of sales down 16% to become the best-selling LCV in the country at 24,153 units and 2.8%. Excellent performance of the Ford Focus rounding up the Top 5 up a massive 49% and 8 spots.

Other great performers in Turkey this year include the VW Polo up 28% to #7, the Renault Clio more than doubling its 2012 volume (+115%) and up 13 ranks to #8, the VW Jetta up 34% to #12, Toyota Corolla up 39% to #15 and VW Passat up 45% to #16. The Peugeot 301 lands at #19 with 12,461 sales and 1.5% while its twin the Citroen C-Elysee arrives at #25 with 10,681 units and 1.3%, both for their first full year in market, with the Opel Astra sedan in the same situation and popping up to #22. Finally, notice the Dacia Dokker at #32, Mercedes CLA at #77 and Opel Mokka at #113.
